Although potentially advantageous to be already based in the region, this is not required and applications are encouraged from outside the Middle East – making the opportunity an extremely rare, high quality pathway into a very competitive market. The successful applicant will be taking on a broad range of projects matters, but with a very heavy focus on financing work. Therefore, they will need to hold at least 6 years of project finance experience. The successful applicant will be based in Dubai, but work on an international diet of matters.

Senior Legal Counsel – Corporate/Commercial

Our client is seeking to hire a Senior Legal Counsel who will report directly to the Chief Legal Counsel. This is a varied and stimulating role where some key responsibilities include working on international and regional corporate transactions, including mergers & acquisitions and joint ventures. Other areas include negotiating various types of commercial contracts as well as managing procurement matters and you will also be expected to draft IP & technology contracts too. Applicants should have a common law qualification coming from jurisdictions such as the UK, Australia, New Zealand or Canada. You would ideally have at least 8 years’ PQE gained in a reputable law firm and in-house entity. Experience of working in the UAE or the wider Gulf would be an advantage but not an absolute necessity.

Commodities Compliance Officer

Here is an opportunity to leading role in developing the trading compliance function within a major energy company in the Middle East. This is a broad compliance role but will be focusing on providing advice to the business as well as developing their trading compliance policies and processes, as well as working with the wider compliance team to continue to develop the monitoring surveillance programs. The purpose of this role is to ensure the Trading Business operates in accordance with requirements of the law, the Firm’s policies and procedures, and Commodities Trading regulations as applicable to trading activities. This role will be a broad compliance role, advising the trading business on day to day activities, implementing trading compliance programs and associated training. Accountabilities: As a SME, lead development of effective trading compliance and monitoring programs. Providing compliance support and advice to the trading business, across both financial and physical commodity products. Advising and implementing applicable business conduct standards and monitor compliance to policies, rules and regulations such as MiFid, REMIT, EMIR, MAR and Dodd Frank, as well as AML, Market Abuse, and sanctions that are applicable to the Trading Business. Advising the business on regulatory changes that impact the trading business. Liaising with local and international regulatory bodies along with the Group Head of Compliance. Required Experience and Qualifications: Strong academic qualifications from an internationally recognised university and preferably a postgraduate degree. At least 5 years of trading compliance experience, ideally with some experience working with commodities products. Thorough and up to date knowledge and experience of managing regulatory requirements affecting international energy commodity trading such as (REMIT, EMIR, MAR, Mifid, Dodd Frank) and trading venues rules. Experience of providing compliance advice to the trading floor and of developing policies along side the business and legal functions.
